Elk Ridge, TN – July 12, 2025 — The City of Elk Ridge has been awarded a public safety grant to modernize its fire alarm infrastructure, with new monitored alarm systems being installed at key buildings throughout the community.
Unlike traditional smoke alarms, the new system will be directly linked to a professional monitoring service, which will notify dispatch immediately in the event of a fire alarm activation — cutting down on valuable response time and potentially saving lives and property.
The project is being carried out with the assistance of FIBER-X Communications. Technician Max Baudrate has been on site at the Elk Ridge Fire Department this week, installing upgraded radio and server systems that will support the monitoring network.
“This system is a game-changer for Elk Ridge,” Baudrate said. “We’re building in direct notification paths to dispatch, so the moment a fire alarm goes off, responders know — even if no one’s around to make a call.”
Fire Chief Dustin Peavler-Rinq praised the upgrade, saying it’s a major step forward in public safety. “We’ve always had reliable volunteers and a fast turnout, but this system adds another layer of speed and certainty. It’s a great use of grant funds.”
Installations are already underway at city buildings and high-priority sites, with plans to expand coverage in the coming months. The city is also exploring options to make similar systems available to local businesses and residents.
