Elk Ridge, TN – July 12, 2025 — A minor fire at Texon Gas & Shop prompted a swift response from the Elk Ridge Fire Department Saturday afternoon.

The incident occurred around 3:15 PM, when smoke was reported coming from the exterior of the gas station. Fire crews arrived on scene within minutes and quickly brought the situation under control.

The source of the fire was identified as a trash can that had ignited near the side of the building. Thanks to the prompt response and effective teamwork of the department, the flames were extinguished before they could cause significant damage.

Chief Dustin Peavler-Rinq served as incident command. Firefighter Krause and Captain Robins were among the personnel on the scene, working quickly to suppress the fire and secure the area.

There were no injuries, and the gas station remained structurally unharmed aside from minor smoke residue in the immediate area.

“It could’ve been worse,” said Chief Peavler-Rinq. “Thankfully, it was contained to a single receptacle, and our crew did a great job acting fast.”

Operations at Texon resumed later in the day. Investigators believe the fire may have been caused by improperly discarded smoking materials.

The Elk Ridge Fire Department reminds residents and patrons to dispose of cigarettes and flammable items safely, especially in dry conditions.
